PRESS RELEASE Washington State RNHA Congratulates Fredi Simpson
For Immediate Release Redmond Washington.
On January 29 of 2005 Fredi Simpson was unanimously elected Vice Chairman of the Washington State Republican Party at its Central Committee meeting in Tukwila, Washington. She has also served as the Chairman of the Chelan County Republican Party since 1999. The granddaughter of Mexican and Spanish migrant workers, Simpson describes how she was driven to become a Republican by two factors--first, the difference she saw between her uncle, a Democratic big-shot in California who was born a citizen, and her mother, who was born in Cuba and had to work for her citizenship. Her uncle took his citizenship and the blessings that go with it for granted, while her mother never did. Second, when her mother wouldn't allow her to take government money for college that was offered simply because she was part Hispanic. Simpson helped with the organization of the Hispanic recruitment drive in 2004, bringing in more Republican Hispanic votes in Washington State history without using any money from the state party. Between 2000 and 2004 the percentage of voters of Hispanic descent increased from 2% to 5% in the state of Washington and exit polls indicate that they supported the re-election of President Bush at a rate of 49%, which exceeds the 46% overall support across all ethnic group. Simpson co-chaired the John Carlson for Governor campaign for North Central Washington in 1999. In 2003 she was elected as a Washington Federation of Republican Women (WFRW) District Director (North Central). She was elected to serve as 3rd Vice President of the WRFW for 2005-2007. Simpson served as the campaign manager for the Mike Harum for Chelan County Sheriff campaign in 2002. In 2003 she was elected Washington State Republican National Hispanic Assembly Vice Chair. In 2004 she was the 2004 Rossi for Governor team leader for Chelan County and has been asked to serve on the Rossi Transition Team. Simpson's husband Bruce is a custom goldsmith/jeweler in Wenatchee, and she has a 13 year old son, Kane. She stays active in her community by serving on the Greater Wenatchee Community Action Board, the Wenatchee Rotary, Co-Chair of the 2005 Rotary Park Auction Committee, and the Wenatchee Valley Gang Coalition.
